We believe children learn best in
an enriched environment that allows many choices and "hands on"
experiences within a comfortable structure. These are the
three key ingredients to Meadowlark’s preschool program.
Each day has the same structure.
Children come to Meeting Time, Snack Time, Rug Time, Small Group,
and Story Time. Between these times they have choices. Some are
the same every day (e.g. block play) and some are new (e.g. the
medium used in the art project offered, new dramatic play props,
games, puzzles, outdoor play equipment, to name a few).
Research has shown that children learn best from being able to see
it, feel it, smell it and manipulate it.
There is a greater depth of understanding of concepts learned
through “hands” on experiences.
Teachers carefully plan a variety
of classroom activities allowing children to learn through play. We
watch their play and facilitate the expansion of their ideas and
activities. A low teacher/child ratio encourages language
development, listening skills, caring and focusing on each other,
and creative problem solving.
Children are closely observed. As
they approach the age to enter kindergarten, we look at learning
styles and readiness for activities.
The following is a list of activities and their benefits for learning. All
of these activities
support individualized learning and strengthening of self concept.
